MSA Sport is serving as Criteria Architect, Owner’s Advisor, and Sports Facilities Consultant to the Galion Port Authority on the Freese Center for Sports and Recreation. The City of Galion, located in North-Central Ohio on the US 30 Innovation Corridor, is developing this unique multi-sport recreational asset to serve local school districts, amateur sporting teams, parks/recreation departments, and corporate entities as a premier indoor activity center for sports and recreation.
A Multi-Purpose Venue
The project, inspired by the Freese Foundation (a legacy family and corporate partner in the Galion Community) will feature a large Indoor Court Sports Venue for basketball, volleyball, and other indoor activities, as well as a large indoor synthetic turf field surrounded by the recreational walking track for indoor field sports including soccer, field hockey, football. There will also be multipurpose areas for rentals, parties, and teambuilding activities, as well as large group spaces for community gathering and promotional activities.
A Beacon for the Community
Located on the high-traffic US 30 corridor, the facility was designed as a “beacon” for the community, utilizes simplistic modern materials inspired by local agrarian building aesthetics, and features a large central lobby space. The new main lobby is highly visible in the open landscape surrounding the site and internally will feature graphic displays highlighting the legacy of the Freese Family on the Galion and Crawford County community.
